* There is no date of publication in the book. On page 44, the text describing the walk from Welwyn Garden City to Hatfield mentions "the roar of traffic on the new by-pass road". The Hatfield by-pass was built in 1927. From this I am guessing a publication year of about 1930.

There are twelve rambles in the book. For each one there is a short article about the area of the walk (1 to 4 pages), a map with the route marked in green, and the route directions on a single page. Each walk is illustrated by one (sometimes two) pen-and-ink sketches - mostly of buildings which can be seen on the route; fourteen sketches altogether. Some of the maps and some of the sketches are mounted sideways in the book, so I have had to do a certain amount of rearranging to present them here for viewing on the screen. Also, I have enlarged the maps in relation to the text pages so that the print within each map is large enough to be clear while at the same time the route directions fit on the screen.
